Students from Hanoi University of Pharmacy Win the 27th Euréka Award

On December 7th, the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union, in collaboration with the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, organized the closing ceremony and awarding of the 27th Euréka Student Scientific Research Award 2025.

This year's award, held from July to December 2025, attracted 2,179 projects from over 7,500 students from 161 universities, academies, and colleges nationwide. The projects spanned 15 fields, including: Information Technology, Food Technology, Administration – Law, Chemistry, Educational Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Social Sciences, Medical Sciences, Economics, Engineering – Technology, Planning – Architecture and Construction, Biology, Resources – Environment, Culture – Arts, and Physics.

As a result, the Organizing Committee awarded 192 prizes, including 15 First Prizes, 15 Second Prizes, 21 Third Prizes, and 141 Consolation Prizes.
In 2025, Hanoi University of Pharmacy had 5 projects participating, of which 1 project reached the final round and won a Consolation Prize:
Project Title: Deciphering molecular insights of HDAC6 inhibition through SHAP-based interpretation of optimized machine learning models
Authors: Nguyen Thao My – Kristýn
Scientific Advisor: Dr. Do Thi Mai Dung

The project applied information technology, artificial intelligence, and automation in building an optimized machine learning (ML) model combined with explainable AI (XAI) to predict HDAC6 inhibitory activity. The most effective model (ECFP6-RF) achieved 90.20% accuracy and was interpreted using SHAP, contributing to clarifying important structural features. This is a step forward in overcoming the "black box" nature of machine learning and supporting the drug design process.

The achievement at the 27th Euréka Prize demonstrates that students of Hanoi University of Pharmacy not only possess strong professional knowledge but also proactively apply information technology and artificial intelligence in scientific research. This provides a foundation for the University to continue promoting interdisciplinary research, building a modern academic environment, and encouraging students to develop scientific ideas linked to AI in pharmacy. With this orientation, Hanoi University of Pharmacy will continue to accompany students and young lecturers in the process of conquering new knowledge, contributing practical values to the community, and enhancing the position of the Vietnamese pharmaceutical industry in the digital age.
