Its functions include managing academic and administrative staff; providing undergraduate and postgraduate education; conducting scientific research; transferring technology; offering professional consultancy; and performing other academic activities in the fields of biology, biotechnology, and related disciplines.
Development History
According to Resolution No. 01/NQ-HĐTDHN dated March 12, 2020, issued by the University Council of the Hanoi University of Pharmacy on the approval of the University’s Strategic Development Plan to 2030 with a vision to 2045, the University aims to transform into a multidisciplinary and multi-field institution (within pharmaceutical sciences). It is oriented toward becoming a research-based university integrated with professional practice (2025–2030), a leading national center for pharmaceutical training and research, then toward an innovation-driven university by 2030, and ultimately a fully innovative university by 2045.
In recent years, biotechnology in Vietnam has achieved rapid progress and is gradually advancing toward industrial-scale development. Recognizing the crucial role and strategic importance of biotechnology, significant investments have been made by governmental bodies, research institutions, and enterprises in infrastructure development and human resource training. Under Decision No. 553/QĐ-TTg dated April 21, 2017, approving the Master Plan for Biotechnology Development to 2030, key product groups in medicine and pharmacy, agriculture, industry, and the environment have been prioritized for advancement. Together with the development of other sectors, biotechnology is considered one of the fundamental pillars in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
In this context, the Faculty of Biotechnology was established under Decision No. 484/QĐ-DHN dated June 23, 2022, by the Rector of the Hanoi University of Pharmacy to meet the growing demand for highly qualified human resources and to promote scientific research in applied biotechnology for medicine and pharmacy.
